Abstract

This quantitative survey research sought to investigate the patterns and effects of prenatal and postnatal exercises among pregnant mothers receiving care at Asaba Specialist Hospital in Delta State. A well-structured questionnaire was carefully developed to collect data from a sample of 120 respondents, with a convenience sampling technique employed to recruit participants from the target population. The questionnaire examined multiple dimensions, such as the prevalence, types, and perceived effects of prenatal and postnatal exercises. SPSS version 27 was utilized as the statistical tool for presenting and analyzing the data, while a t-test was applied to test the formulated hypotheses. Contrary to the third hypothesis, mothers who participated regularly in prenatal and postnatal exercises reported fewer pregnancy-related complications, highlighting the beneficial role of exercise-based interventions. In conclusion, this research adds to the current body of knowledge on maternal healthcare by providing in-depth understanding of exercise practices among pregnant women in Delta State. The results emphasize the value of customized exercise programs and cultural awareness in enhancing maternal well-being. Recommendations include establishing accessible exercise facilities, ongoing training for healthcare providers, and community-based awareness initiatives. Although the study acknowledges limitations such as its cross-sectional design and dependence on self-reported data, these findings establish a strong basis for future investigations in this vital area of maternal health.
