Abstract
The study focused on assessing cybersecurity awareness and readiness among a targeted population using a quantitative survey research design. A structured questionnaire was meticulously designed to gather data from a sample size of 120 respondents. The collected data were then processed and analyzed using SPSS27, a statistical software widely used for data presentation and analysis. Hypotheses were formulated and tested using t-tests to evaluate respondents' perceptions and attitudes towards cybersecurity principles, threats, vulnerabilities, and protective measures. The findings of the study revealed significant insights into the cybersecurity landscape as perceived by the surveyed population. Respondents demonstrated a strong consensus regarding the importance of implementing encryption protocols, regularly updating software and security patches, and adopting robust authentication methods. Moreover, they exhibited a high level of awareness concerning prevalent cyber threats such as phishing attacks and the risks associated with outdated or weak authentication methods. The effectiveness of cybersecurity measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and regular security audits, was also widely acknowledged by the respondents. In conclusion, the study underscored the critical role of cybersecurity education, training, and strategic investments in enhancing overall cybersecurity resilience. It highlighted the need for organizations to prioritize proactive measures such as multi-factor authentication, encryption, regular security audits, and incident response planning to mitigate cyber risks effectively. The study's findings contributed to a better understanding of cybersecurity awareness among the surveyed population and provided valuable insights for policymakers, organizations, and cybersecurity professionals to strengthen their cybersecurity posture and protect against evolving cyber threats. Based on the study's conclusions and findings, several recommendations were proposed. Organizations were advised to invest in ongoing cybersecurity training and education programs to enhance employee awareness and best practices. Implementing multi-factor authentication (MFA) and encryption protocols was recommended to add layers of security to data assets. Regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and incident response planning were prioritized to detect and respond to cyber threats promptly. Collaboration and information sharing within the cybersecurity community were also encouraged to foster collective defense mechanisms. By adopting these recommendations, organizations could bolster their cybersecurity resilience and better protect sensitive data and digital assets in an increasingly complex threat landscape.

and technologies to combat emerging threats effectively.
The
emergence of cybercrime subcultures, such as Yahooboys in Nigeria, reflects the
interconnected nature of cybersecurity challenges (Adebusuyi, 2020). These
subcultures exploit loopholes in digital systems and capitalize on weak
cybersecurity measures, highlighting the continuous battle between security
professionals and malicious actors (Ayantokun, 2020). Ethical hacking has been
proposed as an effective tool in the Nigerian telecommunication industry to
proactively identify and address vulnerabilities before they are exploited
maliciously (Akinyemi et al., 2017).
Despite
the ongoing efforts to enhance cybersecurity, challenges persist in Nigeria and
globally (Ibrahim et al., 2018). Cybersecurity issues encompass a wide range of
concerns, from technical vulnerabilities to human factors such as awareness and
education (Aloba et al., 2021). The economic impact of cyber threats, as
evidenced by the annual losses to cybercrime in Nigeria, underscores the
urgency of implementing comprehensive cybersecurity strategies (Fitzgerald,
2018).

and network security are fundamental components of cybersecurity measures aimed
at protecting digital assets (Fitzgerald, 2018). However, cybersecurity is not

The
landscape of cybersecurity in Nigeria, particularly within the

of the foremost issues is the incomplete adoption and understanding of
cybersecurity measures within Nigerian telecommunication companies (Adeyeye et
al., 2021). While there's acknowledgment of the importance of cybersecurity,
there's a substantial gap in implementing and assessing the specific measures
that could significantly enhance both performance and security within this
sector (Akinsomi et al., 2020).
Another
significant gap lies in the rapidly evolving nature of cyber threats and the
subsequent need for adaptive defense strategies (Idowu et al., 2018). As new
technologies emerge and threat actors become more sophisticated, conventional
cybersecurity approaches may not provide adequate protection (Alade &

monitoring and updating of cybersecurity measures are not essential to stay
ahead of evolving cyber threats.
