Abstract
This study assessed levels of cybersecurity awareness and preparedness
within a specific target group through a quantitative survey-based research
approach. A carefully constructed questionnaire was used to collect data from
120 respondents. The gathered data were processed and examined with SPSS
version 27, a statistical tool commonly employed for data visualization and
statistical analysis. Hypotheses were developed and evaluated via t-tests to
explore participants’ views and attitudes toward cybersecurity principles,
threats, vulnerabilities, and protective actions. The results provided
important revelations about the cybersecurity environment as understood by the
surveyed group. Participants showed strong agreement on the necessity of
deploying encryption protocols, performing frequent software updates and
security patches, and utilizing strong authentication techniques. They also
displayed substantial awareness of common cyber threats, including phishing
attacks, and the dangers linked to outdated or insufficient authentication
practices. The value of cybersecurity tools such as firewalls, intrusion
detection systems, and routine security audits was broadly recognized by the
respondents.
In summary, the research emphasized the vital importance of
cybersecurity education, training programs, and targeted investments for
improving overall resilience against cyber risks. It stressed that
organizations should emphasize proactive steps including multi-factor
authentication, encryption, ongoing security audits, and well-defined incident
response plans to effectively reduce cyber threats. The outcomes of the study
enhance knowledge of cybersecurity awareness levels among the surveyed
population and offer practical guidance for policymakers, organizations, and
cybersecurity experts to reinforce their defenses and defend against
continuously changing cyber risks. Drawing from the conclusions and results,
various recommendations were made. Organizations should commit resources to
continuous cybersecurity training and educational initiatives to improve staff
knowledge and adherence to best practices. The adoption of multi-factor
authentication (MFA) and encryption protocols was suggested to create additional
protective layers for valuable data. Emphasis was placed on conducting regular
security audits, vulnerability assessments, and developing incident response
strategies to quickly identify and address cyber incidents. Greater
collaboration and exchange of information among cybersecurity stakeholders were
also promoted to build stronger collective defenses. Implementing these
suggestions would help organizations strengthen their cybersecurity resilience
and more effectively secure sensitive information and digital resources amid an
ever-more challenging threat environment.

with cybersecurity best practices and emerging technologies to successfully

The rise of cybercrime subcultures, such as the Yahooboys in Nigeria,
demonstrates the linked character of cybersecurity issues (Adebusuyi, 2020).
These groups take advantage of weaknesses in digital platforms and inadequate
security controls, revealing the persistent conflict between defenders and
attackers (Ayantokun, 2020). Ethical hacking has been recommended as a valuable
method in the Nigerian telecommunications field for proactively discovering and
fixing vulnerabilities prior to malicious exploitation (Akinyemi et al., 2017).
Even with sustained initiatives to improve cybersecurity, significant
obstacles remain both in Nigeria and internationally (Ibrahim et al., 2018).
Cybersecurity problems cover a broad spectrum, from technical weaknesses to
human elements like awareness and training (Aloba et al., 2021). The financial
consequences of cyber threats, demonstrated by yearly losses from cybercrime in
Nigeria, emphasize the pressing need for thorough cybersecurity frameworks

cybersecurity efforts designed to defend digital resources (Fitzgerald, 2018).
Nevertheless, cybersecurity involves more than technology it also encompasses

1.2 Statement of the
Problem
The cybersecurity situation in Nigeria, especially in the
telecommunications industry, contains several serious shortcomings that need
immediate focus and scholarly investigation to resolve.
A primary concern is the partial implementation and comprehension of
cybersecurity practices among Nigerian telecom firms (Adeyeye et al., 2021).
Although the significance of cybersecurity is recognized, there exists a
notable deficiency in applying and measuring particular measures that could
substantially improve both operational performance and security in this
industry (Akinsomi et al., 2020).
A further major shortfall concerns the fast-changing character of cyber
threats and the corresponding requirement for adaptable defensive tactics
(Idowu et al., 2018). With the arrival of new technologies and increasingly
skilled threat actors, traditional cybersecurity methods may prove insufficient
(Alade & Akinbode, 2017). This shortfall emphasizes the importance of
studies aimed at recognizing new threats and creating forward-looking defense
strategies.
Cybersecurity difficulties reach past purely technical issues to
encompass human-related factors including awareness, education, and ethical
issues (Aloba et al., 2021). There is a strong need for deeper investigation
into the effects of organizational culture and personal conduct on
cybersecurity strength (Akinyemi et al., 2017). This deficiency highlights the
value of cross-disciplinary studies that combine technical knowledge with
insights from social and behavioral sciences for a complete cybersecurity strategy.
The financial effects of cyber threats also require focused examination (Fitzgerald, 2018). The following hypotheses were tested:

significantly reduce the risk of data breaches.

does not enhance overall data protection.
3. Continuous monitoring and updating of cybersecurity measures are not essential to stay ahead of evolving cyber threats.
