Abstract
This quantitative
survey research aimed to investigate the effects of procurement practices on
organizational performance within Lagos State University of Education, Ijaniki.
Employing a structured questionnaire as the primary data collection tool, the
study gathered responses from a sample of 120 stakeholders within the
university. The survey instrument was designed to elicit insights into
perceptions of transparency, communication, and the overall impact of past
procurement practices on organizational performance. The data collected were
subsequently presented and analyzed using SPSS27, employing descriptive
statistics and a t-test to examine the hypotheses formulated. The findings of
the study indicated a generally positive perception among respondents regarding
the transparency and communication of past procurement practices. Furthermore,
the majority acknowledged a positive impact of these practices on the overall
organizational performance. Hypothesis testing using the t-test revealed
significant relationships between procurement practices and cost-effectiveness,
transparent processes and project timeliness, as well as adherence to legal
frameworks and the quality of acquired goods and services. These results
underscore the pivotal role of effective procurement strategies in influencing
financial outcomes, expediting project timelines, and ensuring the quality of
acquisitions. In conclusion, the study provides valuable insights into the
dynamics of procurement practices at Lagos State University of Education, Ijaniki.
The findings emphasize the critical importance of transparent, strategic, and
legally compliant procurement processes in enhancing organizational
performance. Recommendations include continuous training programs, enhanced
communication channels, regular procurement audits, and technology integration
to further improve procurement practices within the university and similar
institutions. This study contributes to the broader discourse on procurement
within the public sector, offering actionable insights for sustained
organizational success.
