Abstract
This quantitative survey research design sought to explore the intricate relationship between governance crises and the migration of skilled workers from Nigeria. A structured questionnaire was meticulously designed to collect data from a purposive sample of 120 respondents, encompassing skilled professionals who have experienced the governance challenges prevalent in the Nigerian context. Employing SPSS27, the gathered data underwent rigorous presentation and analysis, with the application of a t-test to assess the stated hypotheses. The findings revealed a consensus among respondents regarding the significant impact of governance challenges on the retention of skilled professionals within Nigeria. The t-test results underscored the statistical significance of this perception, validating the hypothesis and emphasizing the tangible hindrance that governance crises pose to the effective utilization of skilled expertise within the country. Furthermore, the study illuminated the direct and indirect effects of governance issues on skilled workers' motivations to migrate, emphasizing the intricate interplay between these challenges and the decisions of professionals to seek opportunities abroad. An in-depth exploration of participants' understanding of migration patterns unveiled a remarkably high level of consensus, suggesting a profound awareness of the complexities surrounding skilled worker migration from Nigeria. Additionally, the study revealed an optimistic endorsement of potential strategies and policies to address governance challenges effectively. The t-test results accentuated the statistical significance of this consensus, reinforcing the belief among respondents that targeted interventions can mitigate the migration of skilled workers and contribute to national development. In conclusion, this study, rooted in a quantitative survey research design, provides valuable insights into the nexus between governance crises and skilled migration in Nigeria. The findings not only contribute to the academic discourse but also offer practical implications for policymakers. Addressing limitations inherent in the study, it is recommended that future research endeavors adopt a longitudinal approach and incorporate diverse stakeholder perspectives. The recommendations arising from this study underscore the need for multifaceted interventions, including anti-corruption measures, institutional reforms, and targeted policies, to retain and harness the rich pool of skilled talent within Nigeria for sustainable national development.
