Abstract
This study
investigated the sociocultural determinants of maternal healthcare outcomes
among pregnant women attending antenatal clinics at Faith Mediplex Hospital.
Employing a quantitative survey research design, data were collected using a
structured questionnaire from a sample of 120 respondents. The questionnaire
was designed to elicit responses on various sociocultural factors influencing
maternal health, including traditional beliefs, societal expectations, and
cultural practices related to childbirth. The collected data were presented in
frequency tables and analyzed using statistical methods. A one-sample t-test
was utilized to test hypotheses related to the association between
sociocultural factors and maternal healthcare outcomes. The results revealed
significant associations between sociocultural factors and maternal mortality,
utilization of maternal healthcare services, and pregnant women's perceptions
and experiences. Specifically, sociocultural factors were found to have a
significant impact on maternal mortality rates, healthcare service utilization,
and women's perceptions of maternal health outcomes. In conclusion, the
findings of this study underscored the importance of addressing sociocultural
determinants in maternal healthcare interventions. By understanding and
addressing these factors, healthcare providers and policymakers could develop
targeted strategies to improve maternal health outcomes and reduce maternal
mortality rates. Recommendations included the development of culturally
sensitive maternal healthcare programs, community-based initiatives to
challenge harmful norms and practices, and the integration of sociocultural
considerations into healthcare policies and practices. These findings
contributed to the existing body of knowledge on maternal health and
highlighted the need for comprehensive, culturally competent approaches to
maternal healthcare delivery.
