Abstract
This quantitative
survey research study focused on investigating the knowledge and attitudes
towards malaria prevention among rural communities. A structured questionnaire
was designed to collect data from a sample of 120 respondents. The data
collected were presented and analyzed using SPSS27. Hypotheses were formulated
and tested using t-tests to determine significant differences in knowledge
levels and attitudes towards malaria prevention strategies among rural
communities. The findings revealed significant differences in the level of
knowledge about malaria prevention among rural communities. Attitudes towards
malaria prevention strategies were also found to vary significantly among the
study population. Additionally, factors influencing knowledge and attitudes
towards malaria prevention were identified. These results underscore the
importance of tailored interventions to address specific knowledge gaps and
attitudes towards malaria prevention in rural areas. In conclusion, this study
provides valuable insights into the knowledge and attitudes towards malaria
prevention in rural communities. The findings highlight the need for targeted
educational campaigns and community engagement initiatives to improve awareness
and promote positive attitudes towards malaria prevention measures. Based on
the results, several recommendations are proposed, including the implementation
of culturally sensitive health education programs and the provision of
accessible healthcare services in rural areas. These efforts are crucial for
reducing the burden of malaria and improving public health outcomes in rural
communities.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background to the Study
Malaria,
a vector-borne disease caused by Plasmodium parasites transmitted through the
bites of infected mosquitoes, continues to pose a significant public health
threat, particularly in rural communities (Shimaponda-Mataa et al., 2017).
Despite extensive efforts to combat the disease, malaria remains a leading
cause of morbidity and mortality in many regions worldwide, with a
disproportionate burden on low-resource settings (Health F democratic R of EM
of, 2022). Rural areas often face unique challenges in malaria prevention due
to limited access to healthcare facilities, inadequate infrastructure, and

Statement of Problem

Objectives of the Study
The
specific objectives of this study were:
1. To
assess the level of knowledge among rural communities regarding malaria
transmission, symptoms, and preventive measures.
2. To
explore the attitudes of rural communities towards malaria prevention
strategies, including the use of bed nets, indoor residual spraying, and
seeking prompt treatment.
3. To
identify factors influencing knowledge and attitudes towards malaria prevention
among rural communities.

following research questions guided this study:

1.5 Research Hypotheses
Based
on the research questions, the following hypotheses were formulated:
1. Null
Hypothesis (H0): There is no significant difference in the level of knowledge
about malaria prevention among rural communities. Alternative Hypothesis (H1):
There is a significant difference in the level of knowledge about malaria
prevention among rural communities.
2. Null
Hypothesis (H0): Attitudes towards malaria prevention strategies do not vary
significantly among rural communities. Alternative Hypothesis (H1): Attitudes
towards malaria prevention strategies vary significantly among rural
communities.

Significance of the Study
This

Scope of the Study
This
