Abstract
The study delved
into the exploration of knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions concerning drug
abuse and addiction among undergraduate students, employing a quantitative
survey research design. A structured questionnaire was crafted to collect data
from a sample of 120 respondents, encompassing various dimensions related to
drug abuse and addiction. The collected data underwent analysis using
statistical software, facilitating the presentation and examination of key
findings. Hypotheses were tested using t-tests to ascertain the significance of
differences in knowledge levels, attitudes, and perceptions among undergraduate
students. The findings of the study revealed significant differences in
knowledge levels regarding drug abuse and addiction among students from
different academic disciplines. Attitudes toward drug abuse and addiction were
found to significantly influence the likelihood of substance misuse among
undergraduate students. Furthermore, perceptions of the prevalence and
consequences of drug abuse and addiction were associated with the likelihood of
engaging in substance use among undergraduate students. These results provided
valuable insights into the factors influencing drug abuse and addiction among
undergraduate populations, highlighting the importance of addressing knowledge
gaps, attitudes, and perceptions in prevention and intervention efforts. In
conclusion, the study contributed to the understanding of drug abuse and
addiction among undergraduate students, shedding light on the complex interplay
of factors influencing substance use behaviors. Based on the findings, several
recommendations were proposed to address the identified issues effectively.
Firstly, educational initiatives were recommended to improve knowledge and
awareness of drug abuse and addiction among undergraduate students across
different academic disciplines. Additionally, interventions targeting attitudes
and perceptions toward drug abuse and addiction were suggested to mitigate the
risk of substance misuse among undergraduate populations. Furthermore, future
research was recommended to adopt mixed-method approaches to gain a more
comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon and explore potential underlying
factors in greater depth. By addressing these recommendations, stakeholders can
work towards creating a safer and healthier environment for undergraduate
students, ultimately reducing the prevalence of drug abuse and addiction within
this population.
