KNOWLEDGE ON THE CONSEQUENCES ON TEENAGE PREGNANCIES AMONG TEENAGERS IN EWOYI COMMUNITY

Abstract

The study focused on investigating the consequences of teenage pregnancies among teenagers in the Ewoyi Community. A quantitative survey research design was adopted to gather data on this topic. A structured questionnaire was developed and administered to a sample of 120 respondents selected using simple random sampling technique. The questionnaire contained items addressing various aspects of socio-economic, psychological, and educational repercussions of teenage pregnancies. To test the hypotheses formulated, a t-test was employed, assuming a mean of 0. The findings revealed significant results across all dimensions examined. Teenagers who experienced teenage pregnancies were found to face greater socio-economic challenges compared to their peers who did not undergo such pregnancies. Additionally, they exhibited higher levels of psychological distress and had lower educational attainment. In conclusion, the study underscores the profound impact of teenage pregnancies on teenagers in the Ewoyi Community, highlighting the urgent need for targeted interventions and support programs. It emphasizes the importance of addressing the socio-economic, psychological, and educational needs of affected teenagers to mitigate the adverse effects of teenage pregnancies. Based on the findings, recommendations are made for policymakers, healthcare professionals, educators, and community stakeholders to implement comprehensive strategies aimed at preventing teenage pregnancies and supporting affected teenagers to lead healthy and productive lives.
