Abstract
This
study aimed to investigate the prevalence of gastrointestinal helminths among
slaughtered cattle. A cross-sectional survey research design was adopted, with
data collected using a structured questionnaire administered to a sample of 112
respondents involved in cattle slaughtering activities. The respondents were
selected to provide insights into the prevalence, types, and factors
influencing gastrointestinal helminths in cattle slaughtered at local
abattoirs. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS version 27, and the
hypotheses were tested using a one-sample t-test to determine the significance
of various factors such as age, sex, and source of cattle on helminth
prevalence. The findings revealed a high prevalence of gastrointestinal
helminths among the cattle, with a notable predominance of roundworms
(nematodes) and tapeworms (cestodes). A significant correlation was found
between the age of cattle and the prevalence of helminths, with older cattle
being more susceptible to infection. However, no significant difference was
observed in the prevalence of gastrointestinal helminths based on the sex of
the cattle. The source of cattle also played a significant role in determining
the prevalence of infections, with cattle from poorly managed farms exhibiting
higher infection rates. The study concluded that gastrointestinal helminths
were highly prevalent among slaughtered cattle, with age and source being
significant factors influencing infection rates. The findings highlighted the
need for targeted interventions, such as age-specific deworming programs,

INTRODUCTION

1.2 Statement

study will focus on cattle slaughtered in selected local abattoirs within
